Canyons of the Sierra de Guara:
Aquatic Canyons
These classic, highly entertaining canyons in the Sierra de Guara feature jumps (always optional), swimming, water-based sections, and “floating” (drifting with the current)—all without the need for rappelling. Accessible to beginners, athletes, and nature lovers alike, each one offers a unique experience. The famous Rio Vero and the legendary Peonera are perfect for a first-time canyoning experience, while the Barrasil requires a bit more physical effort. Duration: approximately 7 hours of activity.
Technical Canyons Also aquatic in nature, these canyons provide a comprehensive introduction to canyoning in the Sierra de Guara, featuring jumps (optional), rappels, natural water slides, and stunning scenery. The Formiga is ideal for beginners, while the Balces—which involves a more demanding approach—will delight adventure seekers. Duration: approximately 6 hours of activity.
Expansive Canyons These “expert-level” canyons—such as Gorgas Negras and Mascun—are particularly long and challenging, designed for highly athletic individuals with prior canyoning experience. The focus shifts from purely playful elements to sustained physical exertion, involving hiking, swimming, rappelling, and jumping, all set within a natural landscape of rare beauty! Duration: approximately 9 hours of activity.
Via Ferrata Starting from Rodellar, this high-altitude route offers a way to explore the fantastic landscape of the Sierra de Guara. The “Virgen” via ferrata ascends a cliff face using metal ladders, rising into the Mascun Canyon. Two particularly vertical and exposed sections represent the main challenges. The summit of the via ferrata provides a unique panoramic view across the entire Sierra de Guara plateau. Duration: approximately 3 hours of activity.
